Nathan has written very convoluted themes into his stories, some of which will leave you puzzling, others will make you think., something I personally really appreciate in a good story. I also appreciate that the main protagonist learns at the same rate as the reader and we are not subjected to a Deus Ex Machina where the protagonist is aware of pertinent facts and/or details before us .

This story is longer than the first, but still just as brilliant. I would definitely recommend it for a read if you read and enjoyed the first. I wouldn’t say you really need to read the first book, to know what’s going on in this book, as they are different stories.

It seems that he gets to “repeat” his mistakes again and again. When New York City comes under threat of nuclear destruction, Rueben is the only one who can save the city. Excellent story and addition to the time travel universe from Mr Van Coops. I am a big fan of Nathan Van Coops and have read/listened to all of his books. This is one of his best and though you don’t need to have listened to the other books set in the same universe, I think it helps to bring this one to life. Despite living on Earth for almost 30 years, Simon Armstrong knows he is not of our world.

I was hoping he’d do another with the main character, but instead we got a new series starring his son… who is even more badass so far . So I persevered, let’s just say the story too quite some time to get to the really great parts. An imaginative story not revolving around time travel.

Good book

However, there are some small links to the first book. Nicely balanced bewteen time travel, mystery, detective work and romance. The technical bits aren’t that technical and support rather than dominate the story. Dangerous people move in the shadows of this city, and now Greyson is in their sights.

My only worry is Nathan will go political like most of my former favorite authors have, leaving me with less and less to listen to or read. I definitely had no interest in the side series featuring a female protagonist, so hopefully he keeps writing good ol’ fashion stories like this with a traditional male protagonist and female love interest. It’s an interesting story arc and links well with the other stories in his universe. It’s not essential you read them but would be useful. I loved how there was little subtle links to the other time travel series, written by this author .
